Our History

It is rare today, to find sons walking in their fathers’ footsteps. That is why the success of Standard Casing is special; it is the story of one family, spanning three generations, who has attained recognition for their Company as one of the foremost suppliers of natural sausage casings.

In 1911, Albert Koss began the business on a very modest scale, making deliveries by horse and wagon to sausage makers in New York City. He was joined in 1931 by his son, Daniel, expanding into the Pennsylvania Dutch country to serve the German sausage makers there. The Company’s market area soon expanded, throughout the Northeast.

Danny also established the company’s Stancase Equipment division in the late 1940’s, offering equipment, supplies and technical support to sausage makers throughout the USA. Michael Koss joined the firm in 1966 and spent considerable time in Europe to study the fine points of processing natural sausage casings. His brother Joel joined the firm as treasurer in 1979, the same year that Michael was named vice president.

Working as a team, Michael and Joel have guided management through a smooth transition into an automated information service to expedite customer service and shipments. Together they planned the construction of a new modern casing selecting and processing facility in New Jersey.

Now in its 99th year, Standard Casing services large and small customers throughout North America and across the world including Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. Despite its growth, this third generation family-run business has never forgotten what has brought them to this point:

"When quality counts, there is only one Standard”.
